HASTE - Hub for Action on School Transportation Emissions

The Challenge:

HASTE_logo_v4_b_150_0.jpgWe were tasked with designing, developing and operationalizing an on-line "hub" for all activities in the Province of British Columbia relating to school transportation emissions.  This included the development of:

  • an interactive emissions and physical energy calculator
  • a classroom results tracking database
  • a map-based classroom project "showcase"
  • live webinar workshops
  • organizational structure and staffing

The Client:

The Environmental Education Action Program Society (EEAP) and the British Columbia Government including the Ministries of Environment, Education, Transportation, Community Health and Sport, and the Climate Change Secretariat.

The Background:

There are numerous environmental education and student campaign programs available in B.C. relating to school transportation emissions. There is also a growing demand from the education community to bring these initiatives into the classroom. However, there was no central meeting place to bring the resources to the schools. A common quantitative measuring capability was lacking, and there was no vehicle for sharing and celebrating results.
